Back At It!

We are off to a great start in PE this year!  The weather has been amazing and the older students have been getting outside longer than normal which is so nice!  The kindergarten have been getting used to their new routines and are having a lot of fun!  The most important thing about PE is to make sure students have their sneakers.  Students are not allowed to participate if they do not have sneakers on.  No crocks, flip flops, dress shoes, boots or sneakers with heals please!  Thank you for your help with this!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great vacation!  As we settle back in to our school routines please make sure your child remembers their SNEAKERS on their gym day.  All of the snow and cold temperatures mean kids need their boots but without sneakers for physical education, students are not allowed to participate.  Thanks for your help!

Field day is supposed to be this Friday, June 7.   However the weather report is not looking favorable.  In the case of rain, we will have Field day on Monday, June 10.  Please remember to have students wear sneakers, put sunscreen on and bring a water bottle!  If you would like to volunteer please talk to your child's teacher or me.  We need face painters and helpers to run the activity stations.  Keep your fingers crossed for warm sunny weather!

End of the year events

With the end of the school year quickly closing in on us there are a lot of things happening in PE!
First, the Mile Run for students in grades 3-5 will be starting next week.  This is their second time doing it this year.  Students set a goal for themselves and will be trying to make or beat the time they set for themselves last fall.  To help students do their best they should be getting out and exercising for at least an hour every day, have a good night sleep and healthy breakfast.
Other important dates:
Friday, May 24 : ACES DAY Everyone will be going outside and exercising together.  Please make sure students wear their sneakers that day.
Friday, May 7: FIELD DAY  Volunteers needed.  Please ask your classroom teacher if they need help.

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is ready to get back into the swing of things!  I have a lot of things planned for everyone this year so make sure you check back regularly to keep up to date!

A couple of reminders for PE.
Students MUST wear sneakers in order to participate in PE.  There is a schedule on this site to help.  Comfortable clothes such as shorts or pants and a tshirt are helpful too.  Students in grades 3-5 will be going outside regularly in the fall so sweatshirts or jackets may be necessary.  If your student takes an inhaler please make sure they have one available in the nurses office.

The MILE walk/jog/run!
Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the Mile walk/jog/run at the end of September.  This is a fitness self assessment for students.  It is a helpful tool for them to evaluate their fitness level and teach them about setting fitness goals for themselves.  In order to help them prepare for this I need your help!  Children should be exercising a minimum of 60 minutes a day. (Check out the Let's Go 5,2,1,0 website for more information) Encouraging your child to get out and play will go a long way in helping them prepare for the mile jog and improve their overall fitness.  I have listed a few ideas to help get them started.

Go for walk or jog
Take the dog for a walk
Play tag with some friends
Participate in a organized sport or activity
Have a dance party
Go for a family bike ride
Jump rope
Play soccer, basketball or other sport

Thank you for your help!  Hope you can get out and enjoy this fabulous fall weather!
